I love a good challenge. I see them come up all the time on my Insta feed. Whether they’re just for fun or there’s a prize involved, I’m always drawn straight in.
I’d stop what I was doing, pul the list into Procreate and start some brainstorming. Then I’d do the first prompt, then start on the second, then I’d get stumped with the third.
A week later and I’d be watching the challenge prompts being shared on Insta, getting major FOMO and marvelling at how wonderful people’s interpretations were while beating myself up that my art was always so literal.
Then the next challenge would come along on my feed…
Apart from FOMO and half-finished sketches, I was totally thrown off my flow. I didn’t finish the designs that would have directly benefitted my portfolio, where I’ve committed to spending most of my time as I grow in my second year designing.
Bummer.
So, this year I’m avoiding the art challenges. I still take screen shots of the lists, they’re great for inspiration for later designs. And they’re quite often prompts that will lead to an on- trend design.
Instead of being daunted by the list and timeline, I finish what I’m working on and pull out the most inspiring prompts one at a time to make something result in a step in the right direction for myself and my art.
